in our journey through the Bible in a year we have just wrapped up our city of the Psalms there is so much in the Psalms that speaks to our hearts in the situations we are experiencing the songs have so many verses that lift our spirits and give us peace but they're also part of the Psalms that are a bit difficult we can read one song that is about praising God then turn to another that is about raining down curses on our enemies we may get to the songs and think why are these in the Bible and how am I supposed to respond to them
we are going to spend some time talking about the songs of judgment calls and Purgatory Psalms and discuss what we can learn from them and how we are to engage with them
are we in love with Derek Hiner says in his commentary on the psalms about a predatory Psalms he said that these songs are for our instruction more than they are for imitation so I have to be approached the songs we are to do so with an attitude to learn from them as we read the Psalms carefully we learn how these songs are in response to wickedness when David asked God to pour out his rage and let his Burning Anger overtake us enemies and Psalm 69 he's not speaking about someone who gave him a dirty look you speaking about people who are against God and his people these people the light and doing evil and they don't have repented Hearts so essentially the imprecatory Psalms pray for God to do what should be done to evil evil deserves to be punished and it's not wrong for us to pray for God to execute his Divine judgement
about the same time is prayers aren't for the moment someone cut us off on the highway or leaves a nasty comment on her Instagram photo these kinds of Psalms and prayers are for the moments we desire forgot to enact his Divine Justice upon those who do evil against God and his people so the root of these prayers the desire for justice we don't see the psalmist seeking a personal Vengeance but God's Divine Justice that's in an evil deserve it's also important to know that the curse is written in at perkatory Psalms are often written in Poetic language to describe the intensity of the psalmist desire for justice so when are we need God knock the teeth out of their mouth Lord Tara the Young Lions fangs and song 58:6 we understand that this is figurative language that essentially ask God to remove the binding words and actions of attack of the wicked are doing rather than a prayer for God to actually remove their teeth we also see and the prayers for God to enact Justice
where's the trust the song this place is Justice in God's hands asking God to execute Justice the way God sees fit and in his timing so then pranks Roi songs and I only speak to God's of justice but also his sovereignty they pointed to the reality that God is the one who is in control and he is the one who will punish wickedness rather than allow Wiccan is to remain and ultimately we know this to be true because of Christ like those in the Old Testament we as Believers today have a deeper understanding of God's judgment because we know that one day Christ will return and bring about God's judgment 2nd Thessalonians 168 tells us it is just for God to repay with Affliction those who have liked you and to give her leave to you who are afflicted along with us this will take place at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his powerful angels will you take his Vengeance with flaming fire on those who don't know God on those who don't have hit the gospel of the Lord Jesus
forgot to enact Justice we do so with hope knowing that while he can and does bring about Justice and a present he will do so completely in the future and essentially any prayer for Jesus to return as a prayer of judgment because when Jesus does return he will bring about the Judgment that is rightly do for those who don't repent and Trust in Christ so then Purgatory Psalms teaches about God's justice and sovereignty and freedom Preparatory songs with hope that's a reason with internal perspective but another thing to keep in mind when reading a preparatory Psalms is also the Bible's command to love our enemies and to pray for our enemies especially praying 4 any missed her tent and receive Christ salvation in fact many of the songs that include imprecations also contain prayers for the wicked to see the error of her ways and for them to repent so as we read a predatory Psalms we are to hold love and hatred of evil intention as Believers we should pray for those who don't know Jesus to repent and receive the mercy of Christ
mommy said ask for God's justice to come upon the wicked and to also ask forgot to change the hearts of those who are opposed to him and this is the way we actually love our enemies are praying that they will recognize their sin and repent for Emerson the fact that Jesus will come back to bring about judgment on a wicked should give us hope and wickedness has ramped it also break our hearts and motivate us to share the gospel with those who don't know Jesus we should tell others about how God will one day bring about judgment upon unbelievers but also how God made a way for us to be rescued from this judgment through Jesus who took on the wrath of God on the cross as far as the Christ we are to love and pray for our enemies will also admitting when you waken is occurred and hitting the evil that goes on in our world when we live this way we reflect the Lord he was a god of love but also a guy who hate single moms are a sharp contrast in language to other portions of the Psalms we don't have to avoid these songs or feel uncomfortable about them when it read these songs with a proper understanding of
what they teach us and how we should apply them we learn to appreciate them for their heart for justice and Holiness so don't play these songs with personal Vengeance but pray them with a gospel perspective design for God to judge them and also asking for God to change the hearts of those who don't know him thanks so much for joining us today and we hope that you join us again tomorrow cuz we Dive Into the Book of Proverbs
